I really want to be a ski family (as opposed to a hockey mom). When I envision our winter weekends the thought of sitting in a cold smelly hockey arena does not appeal to me. Especially when the alternative is to be outside, skiing, as a family.
I grew up skiing basically every weekend in Ellicottville, N.Y. with my sister, brother and parents. I have SO many great memories from our time there. My parents still have a “trailet” In Ellicottville (we pretend it’s a chalet but really it’s a trailer). We’ve been taking Morris (and he’s been on skiis) since he was 18 months old. Now before you get all “judgey” on me, rest assured that Brandon and I are not the type of parents to push our agenda on our kids. Morris is starting his second year of Learn to Skate this month with the Swansea Hockey Association. I’m just keeping my fingers (and toes) crossed that the hills call to him more than the rink.
Poppy’s Collection Ski Family
Katherine, founder at Poppy’s Collection, and I recently realized that we grew up skiing at the same club. She shares my love and passion for skiing and has done a collaboration with Frannie & Lilo to create an exclusive “Ski Mama, Kiddo and Bebe” line of t-shirts. Naturally Morris, Rose and I NEEDED them (My husband is feeling slightly left out, but he’ll live).
The shirts are super-soft, eco-conscious and Made in Canada. A portion of each shirt sold supports child loss, miscarriage and postpartum mental health services for Mothers.
Morris LOVES his t-shirt and wears it proudly. There was a dusting of snow last week and he couldn’t wait to go outside and “build a snowman and go skiing”. To his disappointment and my delight (November is far too early for snow) it melted within a couple of hours. Rose has taken a few steps (3 to be exact) and I’m wondering if its too early to slap a pair on skis on her this winter… probably. For now she’ll make a pretty cute chalet ski bunny and enjoy dancing at the apres ski parties.
