I work in mental health and have for the past 10 years. Here are a three ways to take a quick mental health break that I find effective. I use these with clients, with Morris and myself. I find these simple strategies help me to quickly reduce stress, calm down and smile.
Gratitude Journal reduce stress
Grab a piece of paper or open the notes section on your phone- set a timer for 1 minute- write down anything that comes to mind that make you happy, that you are grateful for, or that made you smile today. Morris and I do this together sometimes, most recently we both said sleep is something that makes us happy 🙂
Another easy exercise is a body scan. In silence (or with music) sit or lie down (you can even do this on public transit as no one will notice). Close your eyes (optional). Start at the tips of your toes and slowly work your way up to the crown of your head. Try to focus on relaxing each part of the body, one body part at a time. Breath in and out through your nose during this exercise because that is also calming. re
First of all close your eyes. Then let your mind wander. Think about a dream vacation, winning the lottery, a clean house- whatever makes you happy. This may help free your mind from stress- or at least invite some positive thoughts in while you daydream.
